From the end of 2000,as the beginning of the project, we installed over 100 escalator units on the subway Oedo line. Due to the depth involved we had to develop supplementary devices to support our installation. This process and the problems involved are outlined in this report

This paper presents a brand-new system for elevator group control. In past, passengers had to push buttons at halls and in elevators, so elevators had to stop at many floors in morning up-peak. The new system can collect passengers to the same floor, because their destinations are automatically registered in passing by security gates. The relationship destination floors and IDs are set to security system on ahead. In result, it reduces around trip times and traffic efficiency is improved. A result of demonstration experiment shows that the new system makes traffic handling capacity increased by 15%, compared to conventional UP/DOWN button system.

This paper describes the method to measure the displacement of tympanic membrane of the passengers of the high speed elevators and the evaluation of the relationship among the air pressure, behavior of tympanic membrane and ear pressure discomfort. The ear pressure discomfort is caused by the difference of air pressure between the lower floors and the higher floors. For the recent high rise buildings, the effect of ear pressure discomfort is getting much important for the ride comfort of the elevator passengers. The "shape from shading" method is applied to reproduce the displacement of tympanic membrane measured by microscope and high speed video camera. Then the relationship between the displacement and the ear pressure discomfort is evaluated. The result shows that the maximum displacement of tympanic membrane is about 2 mm and it hardly moves much more when an elevator car descends, and then, the ear pressure discomfort is the worst and it is not improved without active opening of the eustachian tube. Additionally, when a car descends, there is no relationship between the displacement of tympanic membrane and the velocity of air pressure change.

According to multistory building increase, the number of elevators tends to increase. In this case, also the space needed for hoistway or machine room increases, and as a result the effective floor space of the building decreases. In a common elevator (single deck elevator), there is one machine for one cab, but in a double deck elevator there is only one machine for two cabs, therefor the space needed for transportation can be reduced. However, in recent building design, there are a lot of cases that the height between floor and floor is not equal. In actual double deck elevator, the upper car and the lower car are fixed to car frame and it cannot cope with the difference between each floor. We have developed a Super Double Deck Elevator, in which upper cab and lower cab can move coping with the difference between each floor.
